Work At Home – Looking at Freelance Customer Service
Posted by Brian Lett as Financial
A work at home opportunity which has gained some popularity in the marketplace over the past five years has been the telephone answering service. With this newfound fame, more people are looking to occupy this industry. This has been made evident by the increased volume of search engine queries for key terms such as, “answer calls from home”, “work at home telephone”, “call agent”, “work at home call center”, etc.
It is quite simple to locate a work at home call center, as they are prominent on the Internet. When I conducted a search just moments ago, I came across a call center stating that they have 600 openings. Essentially, these businesses are looking for people with a proper phone etiquette, a professional presence, strong computer skills, and the ability to not become easily diverted from the task at hand. Additionally, these jobs generally require that you have a minimum of one year prior customer service experience, preferably phone support. Not surprisingly, if you speak more than one language, you become a more desirable candidate.
If you are concerned about your verbal skills, please note that a lack of strong verbal communication skills will not rule you out from becoming a call center specialist. The fact of the matter is that more and more businesses are choosing online chat as a customer support mechanism. Often times you will see smaller, start-up companies going this route.
Nonetheless, before accepting a position with a work at home call center, make sure that you know all details up front. You should be clear on how you will be compensated, which hours of the day you will be expected to work, what technical equipment you will need, whether or not you will have to purchase such equipment with your own money, the duration of your position, your expected call or chat volume, etc. Also make sure that everything which you have stipulated to is in writing, so that you have legal recourse should the issue arise.
When it comes down to it, I think that the work at home call center is a good option for those of you who want to work at home, but do not want to own a home business. Just make sure that you conduct your own due diligence on any company prior to agreeing to work for them.
